Blooming Now!

Building a Culture of Respect, RMIT Banner Project 2019

Blooming Now engaged the spectacle of mass effect as an analogy of networks of empowered women having a real impact on the world. Themes of respect, solidarity, support and resistance were explored and expressed through the making of this large-scale mixed-media collaged banner in which students, staff and children of the daycare of RMIT participated creatively with the artistic support and contribution of artist Jo Mott. Over 1000 hands Compose the banner’s coloured “blooming” circular forms. Unified and most visible from a distance the blooms form a female figure arm uplifted in triumph. This banner sends a personal message of respect and support, reclaiming and embracing space for women*.

*Female identifying and non-binary inclusive.
