Volcanus Floralis
Site-responsive Art, Multi-media Art, Installation.
Volcanus Floralis is a celebration of the spectacle of grand floral displays and the ancient geology of the local Ballarat landscape. Mountains ooze floral cascades of lava, golden text flows across basalt, light flashes from bubbling lava amongst the ferns and voices whisper stories through subterranean rumblings. A grand mount erupts with a smouldering fiery bouquet while botanic ballistics shoot out from the smoky plumes. Engaging all the senses, this multi-media installation combined botanic sculpture, sound, atmospherics, light and text, transforming Ballarat Botanic Gardens Conservatory into a volcanic wonderland.
