Distress Signal

Site-responsive Art, Ephemeral Art.

Located on the shoreline at Lorne, Distress Signal was composed of kelp, spelling out the word “Help” on the beach. Intended to conjure multiple interpretations, it may connect to our identification with the constructed plea of the stranded castaway or perhaps a supernatural phenomena in our midst? Conversely, is it offering us help, as seaweed is known to be composed of de-toxicifying constituents? For a brief duration in time and place, within the cycle of tidal ebb and flow a message sprawled along the coastline, only to be washed back into the body of water that covers the planet with the passing of the day.
