Snake in the Grass

An Environmental sculpture project with students from Dame Elizabeth Murdoch College, Langwarrin at McClelland Sculpture Park And Gallery, Langwarrin. The snake was chosen as it (as the sign demonstrates) has a direct relevance to this site (there are live snakes in the grounds at McClelland). It is a powerful symbol throughout many cultures, and the students decided on a double-headed snake, which is represented in Aztec snake or “coatl” mythology. Coatl is interpreted to mean community and mateship. The sculpture is a permanent sculpture in the grounds of McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery, among artworks by some of the most respected and important artists in Australia.
